Spaghetti and meatballs

Reading about a certain food always throws a craving on me. I was reading about meat balls a few weeks ago and finally got around to making some yesterday.

My favorite spaghetti sauce is Puttanesca sauce so I gathered what I needed. Yes, I grabbed the peppercorns instead of the capers. That was corrected before it was too late.

Artisan Sourdough Bread

Artisan bread

I bought this beautiful loaf of Artisan sourdough bread at the Viejas Farmer's Market. The vendor I bought it from was very helpful and said we could call them and let them know what we wanted and they would have it there for us the next week.

Found out that the Viejas Farmer's Market will go year round Whoop Whoop.


Promises, Promises, Promises

We had the promise of rain, seems like everyone got some but us. Well, we did have a light sprinkling in the morning, just enough to splotch up the dusty cars and mess up the windshields.

I got some great shots of the clouds though. 

On my way back into the cottage I noticed some ant activity on the ground.

Don't know if they were mackin' out on a baby scorpion or a nino de la tierra, but what ever it was is just a shell now. EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW


Bye Matilda

Due to a series of unfortunate events, we had to find Matilda a new home, that was two weeks ago. I'm just now able to write about it, it really hurts.  We are very sad but we are sure she's doing much better and is happier where she's at. She is on a larger property with other dogs and animals. I picture her happily running around.

Farmer's Market Carrots

I got these babies at the Farmer's Market that's held on Tuesdays at Viejas. It's open from 3:00 to 7:30 pm. It's just up the road from Alpine.

I put a few of those babies in some butter in the skillet.

I did the same thing with that squash.

Shrimp plated

Cooked up the shrimp with some garlic and lemongrass. Couldn't believe how the carrots kept their bright color. They were delicious, can't wait to get more.

See that little piece of lemongrass at the top of the plate. I took a long sprig of the lemongrass I have growing, tied a knot in one end and draped it across the plate before I put the food on. I thought I'd try and be a little artsy fartsy.

Guess where I'll be this Tuesday.
