Chicken Fried Steak and eggs

I'll have the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs over easy with a biscuit and gravy thankyouverymuch.

Ever since I used the cube steak that I was going to make chicken fried steak with, for my Chicken Fried Steak gone awry I have still been hungry for a good ol' chicken Fried Steak. We came to town and are spending the weekend with daughter Vicky. On our way we stopped at Bonnie's cafe so I could get my fix.

Individual poached quiches, an experiment gone good

On one of my cooking groups a participant posted a photo of some beautifully poached eggs. He also stated that he hard poaches eggs and chills some for wraps and salads, and it's much easier than peeling hard boiled eggs. How great of an idea is that, I swear, some people are so clever. He also stated that it gives them a different texture if you whiz them a little before poaching.

This of course got me to thinking that I'd whiz up some eggs for poaching and while I was at it, I'd add some cheese or something to jazz them up a little. This of course got me to thinking why not make individual little quiches, yeah, that's it quiches. So I started gathering some ingredients.

My last two eggs. Yikes this experiment better work.

How I make an omelet

I love chili omelets. It's hard for me to order omelets in restaurants because I abhor brown on eggs. Unless of course, it's the lacy edge of a fried egg that's formed when it hits the hot pan. Omelets are easy enough to make so I decided that I'd use up a leftover buffalo frank and some chili from last night.

Omelet ingredients

Add a little Queso Enchilado and we have the beginnings of a great omelet.

C'mon, lets go break some eggs.

Chicken Fried Steak gone awry

I bought some eye of round steak that had been put through the tenderizing machine. My intention was to make Chicken Fried Steak, but lately there has been some discussion in the cooking newsgroup about Swiss Steak. Mainly about what makes Swiss Steak a Swiss Steak, and when it isn't a Swiss Steak. I decided to try and make the best of both worlds, my version of a Chicken Fried Steak gone awry.  Maybe I'll name it Swiss Fried Steak, yeah...that's it.

While I was deciding how I was going to go about this, I prepared some vegetables for roasting.

Veggies

Fingerling potatoes cut into wedges, half of an onion and a clove of elephant garlic.

The saga continues...

Dave & Busters Restaurant Mission Valley

Stan has succumb to the latest T.V. advertising Dave & Busters, hereto known as D&B's, has been doing.
He's been talking about it all week. I wanted to stay home and painstakingly go through last weekends hundreds of photos but I thought it was my wifely duty to accompany my husband. Besides, daughter Vicky was joining us and I wasn't going to miss out on seeing her. D&B's is known as the adult Chuck E. Cheese but with valet parking and a doorman.

Let's peek inside

Magnolias in the back country

In the century plant post I mentioned our magnolia tree. It is a hearty little thing because it survives the extremes in temperatures we get. Some years it looks better than others, this is not one of it's best years.
The pile of rocks under the tree to the left is where our precious little Yorkie that we had for 12 yrs now rests.

Whole tree

Come see the blossoms

Blooming century plant and hummingbird

The century plant at work bloomed about a month ago. I've been meaning to get a picture of it but haven't stopped long enough to do it.

Century plant

This morning on my way to the office I noticed a hummingbird and bees buzzing around the top. I had to stop now, I couldn't miss this moment.

Come see the hummingbird and bees all a flitter.
